ROAD CONDITIONS IN MÉRIBEL
Road conditions to Méribel and the 3 Vallées: real-time traffic updates
Before travelling to Méribel and the resorts of the 3 Vallées, checking the road conditions will help you plan your journey and arrive at the resort in the best possible conditions, particularly during the winter season and at peak times.
Travel to Méribel & Courchevel with complete peace of mind
Situated in the heart of the Tarentaise Valley, Méribel and Courchevel are easily accessible by car via the RN90, which links Albertville to Moûtiers – the main access route to the 3 Vallées ski resorts.
In winter, however, traffic can become heavier depending on:
- Weather conditions,
- Snow conditions,
- The start of the holiday season,
- Or busy weekends.
Checking traffic conditions before setting off for our resorts will enable you to adjust your arrival time, ensure you have the necessary winter equipment (compulsory in the Savoie department) and thus reach the resort with greater peace of mind.
RECITA: traffic management in the Tarentaise
To ensure safe and smooth access to winter sports resorts, the Savoie Department has introduced the RECITA scheme (Traffic Management in the Tarentaise).
Activated during periods of high traffic, this system regulates traffic on the RN90 using traffic lights installed as you approach busy sections of the road.
The RECITA scheme enables, in particular:
- Limit congestion in the valley,
- Make areas exposed to natural hazards safer,
- Facilitate passage through tunnels,
- Maintain a smoother flow of traffic towards the Tarentaise resorts, including Méribel, Méribel Mottaret and Courchevel.
Although temporary stoppages may occur, this traffic management system helps to prevent major congestion and generally improves journey times to the resorts.
Why stay on the RN90 when RECITA is active?
When the RECITA system is in operation, certain exits from the RN90 may be temporarily closed or subject to traffic control by the police.
It is therefore essential not to leave the main road, even if your sat-nav suggests an alternative route.
Secondary roads:
- May be reserved for emergency vehicles,
- are not suitable for heavy traffic,
- cause further delays,
- and increase journey time when rejoining the RN90.
The RN90 remains the only route optimised for reaching Moûtiers and the resorts in the Tarentaise Valley efficiently.
